Rivals Numbers Typeface

Perimeter Studios brought me in to pitch ideas and act as an advisor on their redesign of the Yahoo! Rivals brand. While we were working on that, the design team needed to set the numbers 1-9999 in small squares for ranking badges. This was a real conundrum because numbers greater than nine were becoming illegible due to the small size. I saw the problem and said, “Oh. I’ll just make a typeface that will automagically make all numbers between 0 and 9999 the same width and height.” The resulting typeface has gone on to have more uses than the ranking squares, appearing in marketing, on uniforms and more.
