Upstatement tasked me with developing the lettering portion of Vanderbilt University’s 2021 brand evolution. My job was to draw the lettering components: a new logotype, the lettering for a new seal, a singular V and a V inside of a star. The goal was to make something completely new that reflected Vanderbilt’s gravitas as an elite institution. I met the brief by drawing a style that harkens back to engraved lettering seen on official documents around the time of the university’s founding.
