The Markup is a nonprofit news publication focused on the societal impact of new technologies. Upstatement brought me in to develop the first logotype for the publication. I was tasked with making something distinctive and ownable that matched the brand keywords: precise, expert, fair, fearless and human. I drew something that had deep roots in traditional editorial nameplate styles, with modern detailing to push it forward.
