House Industries went through a sans serif crazy in the early 2000s after the runaway success of their Chalet typeface. They asked me to revisit and expand their original sans serif typeface: House Gothic. That typeface was drawn by the great Allen Mercer for early House projects, most notably their infamous promotions for Custom Papers Group. I reworked Allen’s original drawings, making the letterforms work better in headlines, added accented glyphs, reorganized the styles and more. Once that was done, I added completely new extended and text styles. The family more than doubled its size into 23 total fonts and was rechristened House Gothic 23.
